The Parent Backpack

A practical 90-day programme containing tools, techniques, mindset and strategy to support you in parenting a young person with mental health difficulties.

Your
Backpack

Something you always carry with you that contains all of the capabilities you hold inside of yourself.

The resilience, focus, courage and authenticity and many other wonderful traits that make us who we are. There are skills and capabilities in each of our backpacks too. Everyone's backpack is unique, and the extent to which we use the things inside varies too.

Our programme adds to your backpack the tools and techniques, mindset and strategies you need to support yourself and parent your child as they navigate mental health difficulties.

Modular

We know you are time poor, so the programme is broken down into bite-sized modules that will take you minutes to complete.

Practical

The Parent Backpack is all about action. For things to be different you need to do things differently.

About You

This is about you. How you look after and support yourself, so that you can help others.

Simple

Simple, but not necessarily easy when you're faced with these huge challenges. We keep it simple and easy to understand because that's what works.

Our Approach

Our unique approach has six steps, with you, the parent at the centre. These steps are iterative, and you will need to circle back as many times as you need to. Everyone's journey is unique and contains, to some degree, these components.

How the programme works

Over 90 days, our programme provides you with an approach, structure and resources, all designed for parents of young people experiencing mental health difficulties. There are 3 really important messages:

  1. It is not a magic pill that will solve everything.

  2. It won't 'cure' your young person of their mental health difficulties.

  3. It absolutely won't be effective unless you are prepared to put in time and effort your end to make this work for you.

We know, from personal experience, what this is like and how difficult it is. That's why The Parent Backpack exists. We are here for you, and you need to be here for yourself too.

Self-paced Online Learning

These modules are short, bite-sized and practical. They work in any order, but for your initial pass through the programme, we recommend that you pace yourself through the content in the order we have designed.

Although the Backpack programme lasts for 90 days, you have lifetime access to the online modules.

Group Calls

There are regular online calls throughout the 90 days of the programme. During these calls we provide support, coaching, answer questions and build relationships with each other. You can choose to attend none, some or all of them. They are recorded and made available to programme participants only.

Community

We have a Facebook Community that all Backpack participants are encouraged to join. This is a supportive and welcoming space where you can ask questions and get input from other parents. We also run events and webinars throughout the year. You have lifetime access to this group.

Resources

The tools and techniques that we offer you are simple and not easy! They are given to you in a format that you can take and use in your life, giving you handrails that will guide you through each stage of your journey.

We are welcoming Founding Members to our initial group of 20 people who will experience The Parent Backpack for the first time.
